What we are trying to do here is be
consistent and competitive.
"Basically it comes down to integrating the latest IT solutions
to support decision-making and communication with clients,
staff and families."
Automation and consolidation of data collection and storage
was a huge undertaking for PresCare's project team, with 37 paper
forms combined into one app -- PresConnect -- allowing all the
paperwork data to be located in one spot. More importantly,
data will be easily accessible when it is needed; a transformation
process that Skelton says was critical.
Illustrating just how seriously PresCare took this transition
process is the investment in time, resources and money they made.
"The development and implementation of the new CDC environment,
which involved bringing external specialists and internal subject
matter experts together, has been a costly process for PresCare with
an investment well in excess of $800, 000," he says.
The implementation of a centralised call centre that handles all
incoming calls as well as managing the rostering and scheduling
process, was another way in which the organisation worked towards
more streamlined processes for their community care business.
All this was achieved in only four months, which Skelton says the
PresCare board and executive team were particularly proud of.
"Some organisations have taken up to two years to implement their
new systems. We have accomplished this very quickly and effectively
in a short time," he says. "We are ready to go with all our new data
and are in the process of delivering the outcomes of the project to our
clients and I am confident we will satisfy all their requirements."
PresCare chief information officer, Ash Hanna, says BI for the
organisation is about focusing on predictive analytics versus
reporting. It also means data is being collected at the point of care,
reducing errors and speeding up the process.
"The purpose of developing our BI capabilities is to help us
better articulate our drivers and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs),
and by doing so to focus in a very specific way on core issues that
need attention," he says.
Hanna says the organisation was in the
final stages of development of an employee
portal, which will be followed shortly by a
"The employee portal will give our people
access to rostering information, company
communications and an eLearning system
with training modules, videos and material
to encourage them to continue the learning
journey that they began on this project. The
customer portal will give PresCare clients
the ability to check their account status
online and update their contact details or
lodge enquiries or requests.
"Other organisations are looking at this
type of programming," Hanna says. "But
I believe ours is much more streamlined
EXPANSION OF NEW
PresCare's mission of providing clients
with more connected services saw the
organisation take its wide range of in-home
packages and services one step further by
launching its own food services and catering
business, Contented Chef, and expanding
the business with the purchase in March of
major equipment supplier, Walk on Wheels.
The Contented Chef offers dietitian-
approved and affordable meals for seniors
while Walk on Wheels is one of the largest
suppliers of mobility aids and rehabilitation
equipment in the country.
Skelton says these enhanced offerings
will deliver a much broader range of
services to clients, and he has not ruled
out expanding these services in the future
as he predicts the supply of these services
is probably going to be bigger than the
"Vertically integrating our business in
this way means we are able to provide
better pricing, packaged options, and wider
ranges of services to our clients as part of
their CDC packages."
He says PresCare will continue to look
for offerings in food services as well as in
other related industries such as health
providers, allied health professionals and
insurance companies. "The opportunities
are there because the community and aged
care industry encompasses so much and is
constantly growing in different directions."
As PresCare operated on a federated
model it intends to continue expanding
its Contented Chef and Walk on Wheels
services and is currently investigating
complementary acquisitions in other
states, he says.
